Construction Update

People traveling between Lyons and Estes Park during daytime hours can expect to encounter flagging operations between Mile Points 7 and 8 (near the Lion Gulch trailhead) as traffic is released in alternating directions through this single-lane section. The westbound lane is closed during daytime hours for rock drilling work in preparation for blasting work that will be done while this section of the highway is closed in March.

Project Timeline

Initial construction work is scheduled to begin in January 2020 and the project is expected to finish in early 2021. A 30-day full closure of US 36 at Mile Point 8 will begin on Monday, March 9, at 12:01 a.m. This closure will remain in place through the week of April 17.
