guided snowshoe faq

what should i bring?

  • Sunscreen & Lip Balm: The sun’s exposure is strong up a high altitude.

  • Sunglasses: Sun reflecting off the snow/ice can cause blindness. Super important to bring sunglasses.

  • Winter Boots or Hiking Boots: Important to have waterproof boots for maximum warmth and comfort.

  • Fleece Jacket or Warm Layers: The temperature can fluctuate quite drastically with sun, shade, wind & snow. Be prepared for anything!

  • Shell or Rain Jacket or Wind Layer

  • Beanie

  • Buff or Scarf

  • Warm Gloves: Nice to be water-proof as well, but not necessary.

  • Water & Snacks: Stay hydrated and fueled up to enjoy your winter adventure.

  • Day Pack: It’s nice to carry all of these items in a small backpack.

  • Headlamp/Flashlight: Guide will advise if you need a headlamp.

  • Camera: Optional.

What Should I wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable, synthetic, loose fitting pants or stretchy spandex. No Cotton! Mountain weather is unpredictable, so be prepared for snow, wind, sun, and cold weather. Do not hike in a brand new pair of boots, be sure to break them in first by wearing them around town for at least a full day.

what should i eat?

Food is important for both half and full day trips. We recommend a few light snacks for half day trips and a full nutritious lunch plus snacks for full day trips. Water is the most important item of all. The Elkin’s Snowshoe Tour comes with lunch and a post snowshoe whisky package, so a light snack during the snowshoe will do.

What if the weather is bad?

We go out in almost any and all conditions. A guide will call you and inform you of the weather 48 hours before the trip. If the conditions sound too unbearable, you may cancel 24 hours before the trip. We have only cancelled trips due to extremely high winds or super sub-zero temps.

cancellations

If you cancel a trip for any reason up to 24 hours before your trip, you are entitled to a full refund minus the online fees. We cannot refund within 24 hours or for no shows on the day of the trip. If weather is bad, we will first try to reschedule and if we have to cancel, you will receive a full refund. We will pro-rate an outing for the time you missed on a trip.
